Since I had the camera there are not any action
pictures of my Jeep.
SNAP!
It's one of those sounds you never want to hear on a trail ride. Weather it is a
U-joint, drive shaft, axle shaft, or in my case a leaf spring. Yes I finally broke
something on a trail. I think I have been initiated. We got to Randolph, KS at about
midnight on Friday the first of September. We got to the trailhead at about 9:00 AM on
Saturday. I was pumped for my first time on this trail. I had my 78' CJ-7 and my friend
had his 93' Grand Cherokee. I just happened to look to the left and saw this awesome rocky
hill and just had to go up it.
You do stupid things when you have a built Jeep; common sense does not kick in and
you think nothing can stop you. WRONG! I got ¾ the way up the hill and was stopped by a
rock ledge. So I backed down a little to get a better line to the right. Still nothing, so
I let the Jeep roll back a little and stepped on the stupid pedal till I heard a loud
snap. I thought it was an axle. So I backed down the hill to find the Jeep leaning to the
right. Looked under and to my amazement the leaf spring pack on the right rear had busted
the second spring in the pack, and was bent badly. Back to the trailer! After 10 minutes
the Jeep was done playing. So five of us piled into the Grand Cherokee and headed back out
to the trails. All that Jeep has is a set of B.F. Goodrich M/T tires, everything else is
stock.
Look at the pictures to see the hill he went up. His Jeep came out unscathed wile
mine was crippled. I was going to put a lift on it anyway; I'll just do it sooner now.
After the Jeep is lifted I'm going back to climb that
monster.
